Lowe’s tile calculator.
Match the cut plan to the item you buy.
A 12 × 24 label does not promise a 12 × 24-inch face. Select a verified item to see how its actual dimensions meet your room boundary, then reconcile the drawing with piece or carton sales. Calculiva is independent of Lowe’s.

A cut polygon uses one fresh tile. Offcuts are not reassigned to another position.
Two checks behind the order
| Comparison | First estimate | Actual layout | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Source tiles: nominal vs actual face | — | — | — |
| Sales units: area vs source pieces | — | — | — |
The nominal comparison substitutes the label’s rectangle. The area estimate divides usable field area plus your percentage by declared sales-unit coverage. It is a comparison method, not a reproduction of every retailer setting.
Physical faces in the purchased stock total —. That may differ slightly from published coverage because listing dimensions and coverage are rounded independently. Neither number is the installed surface after joints and cuts.
Locate the cut before making it
| Piece | Course | Width | Height | Shape |
|---|
Angled cuts need their polygon coordinates, not just the enclosing width and height. CSV preserves millimetres; displayed inches round to the nearest sixteenth.
Where 50 tiles become 66
Take a 120 × 120-inch field, corner start, straight pattern and zero clearance. Temporarily use zero joints and zero replacements for this arithmetic check. Exact 12 × 24-inch rectangles form ten columns and five rows: 50 tiles.
The verified faces are 11.81 × 23.62 inches. Ten widths cover 118.10 inches, leaving a 1.90-inch strip. Five lengths also cover 118.10 inches, leaving another 1.90-inch strip. Eleven columns and six rows intersect the field: 66 sources, including 16 cuts. This deliberately simple check explains why an area-only order can miss boundary pieces.
At eight tiles per carton, the source count rounds to nine cartons, or 72 tiles. Six remain from carton rounding. Selling the same number of source tiles individually would need 66 purchases. Adding replacements changes those orders again; it does not erase the geometric cuts.
What the retailer already calculates
On the inspected product pages, a 100 ft² area with 10% extra returned 57 Statuario pieces or eight Windsor cartons. That function already handles product coverage and sales-unit rounding. This planner adds positioned cuts and an explanation of the difference between area allowance and fresh source tiles.
Read a signed difference without assuming waste
A positive sales-unit difference means the drawn source pieces require more packages than the area comparison. It does not mean the retailer’s coverage declaration is wrong. Some material is still sitting in offcuts, and this model does not move those scraps into another position. A negative difference is also possible: joints occupy part of the usable rectangle without consuming tile faces. The comparison reports the sign instead of forcing every discrepancy into an extra-waste category.
Centering may distribute narrow cuts across opposite boundaries while leaving the purchase unchanged. Conversely, it may intersect another row or column and raise the count. Inspect the new edge pieces after moving the start; an unchanged carton total can hide a different cutting job. The nominal comparison keeps the same start setting and spacing, so only the assumed tile face changes.
Coverage is a useful cross-check, not a cutting dimension
For Windsor, eight listed pieces at 1.93 ft² each reproduce the 15.44 ft² carton declaration. Multiplying the stated inch dimensions produces a slightly different face area. These rounded listing values serve different purposes: the inch dimensions position the drawing, while the declared coverage belongs to the area-based comparison. We preserve both values rather than adjusting one until they appear identical.
Before cutting, measure a representative tile from the actual delivery. If its face differs materially from the preset, use a custom-dimension calculation. A matching brand or collection name is not enough to identify the package: the item number, finish and sales unit distinguish the records used here.
Price the unit that reaches the checkout
A per-square-foot shelf price is not the same input as a piece or carton quote. Enter the complete sales-unit price shown for your purchase. The result multiplies that quote by the rounded number of units. Changing products resets the quote because retaining a piece price when switching to an eight-piece carton would understate the material total. No retailer price is stored in these presets.
Use the correct tool for the boundary
For another product, enter your own dimensions in the general tile layout tool. A shower with a niche or bench needs separate exposed faces. Small mounted grids belong in the mosaic sheet planner.
Before turning a plan into an order
How do I calculate how much tile I need?
Choose the exact item number, measure both room directions and enter the intended joints. The drawing counts a new source tile for every placed polygon. Add your intact replacement allowance, then buy complete sales units. Check whether usable offcuts can safely reduce that conservative list before ordering.
Does this include Lowe’s installation charges?
Only your entered material price is multiplied by the purchase quantity. Lowe’s separate project estimator considers the room and existing flooring, then offers material and labor tiers. Preparation, tax, delivery and the final installer quote are outside this plan.
Which tile calculator should I use?
Use the retailer’s product calculator for a quick area-based order tied to its listing. Use this planner to inspect where the tiles end and why individual cuts change the count. Neither calculation checks your substrate, tile flatness or installation quality.
How many tiles cover a 10-by-10-foot room?
There is no single answer for every 12-by-24 label. In the deliberately simplified zero-joint example below, measured 11.81-by-23.62-inch faces require 66 source tiles, while exact 12-by-24 rectangles need 50. Those are layout counts before replacements or package rounding.
Can I use these presets for Home Depot tile?
These two records identify specific Lowe’s items. A similarly named product elsewhere may have different faces or packaging. Use the general tile planner with the dimensions and pack quantity printed on that product instead of borrowing a preset.
Why does the square-foot estimate disagree with the cut plan?
Published package coverage is an area declaration. It cannot determine whether a narrow boundary strip needs a fresh tile. The comparison applies your percentage to usable area on one side and to source-piece count on the other, then rounds both to the same sales unit.
Is this Lowe’s tile calculator free?
The calculation, cut table, drawing export and print sheet are available without an account. Calculiva operates this independent tool. It does not place an order or connect the results to a retailer cart.
Can I plan a bathroom floor?
A single rectangular field fits this model. Subtracting the area of a toilet or vanity without locating it would not produce a reliable cutting plan, so this tool does not offer a blind area deduction. Measure the actual tiled boundary and handle separate areas individually.
Do I need a Lowe’s calculator app?
This page calculates in the browser. Save the drawing as SVG, download the cut table as CSV or print a copy. The export records the selected item number so the measurements remain attached to the product used for the calculation.
Can this estimate kitchen tile?
A rectangular kitchen floor can use the same geometry. Cabinets, islands, doorways and transitions may create additional boundaries that this rectangle does not represent. The kitchen label itself does not change the tile dimensions or make the drawing an installation specification.
Can I use the order for an entire shower?
A shower combines several faces and often a niche, bench or opening. Plan those features with the dedicated shower tool. A product listing’s suitability flags must also be checked for the intended surface; an arithmetic result does not establish wet-area suitability.
What still needs checking
- The model covers one rectangle and at most 2,500 source pieces. It does not draw obstacles, separate rooms or movement-joint divisions.
- Product data is a dated listing observation. Check the item, lot, measured face and packaging in hand. The drawing does not account for manufacturing variation.
- Source counts assume no offcut reuse, saw kerf or cutting breakage. Your replacement percentage buys whole tiles separately.
- Pattern availability is geometric, not manufacturer approval. Verify offset, joint and substrate requirements before installation.
- No current availability, installation labor, taxes or delivery charge is included. Material cost uses only your entered sales-unit quote.
