Painted Paper sells a single width, 24 inches, in rolls of 13 or 27 feet, and every product page carries an estimator that adds 28 inches to the wall height and divides. This page cuts the drops instead: each one rounded to the design’s repeat, assigned to the roll you would order, priced at the list price of either length, with the vendor’s own figure printed beside the plan.

The estimator’s drop is the height plus 28 inches whatever the design; the cut is the height plus the trim, rounded up to the repeat. They usually land on the same number of drops per roll. They do not at 7 and 7½ feet, where a 96-inch cut fits three times in a 27-foot roll and the 112 or 118 inch estimator drop twice, nor at 11 and 11½ feet, where the estimator drop passes 156 inches, overshoots the 13-foot roll and doubles the count.

Six rolls of 13 feet or three of 27, at the same price
Take the accent wall the vendor’s measuring guide begins with, 12 feet wide and 8 feet high, in a design with a 24-inch repeat. Twelve feet is 144 inches, six drops of 24. Each drop is 96 inches of wall and 4 of trim, 100 inches, which the repeat rounds up to 120 because the pattern must land at the ceiling on every drop. A 13-foot roll is 156 inches: one drop and 36 inches that cannot become another. A 27-foot roll is 324 inches: two drops and 84 left. Six rolls of 13 feet, or three of 27.
The vendor’s estimator agrees here. It makes every drop 124 inches, the height plus 28, and gets one per short roll and two per long roll. In peel and stick the six short rolls cost $959.94 and the three long rolls $959.97; the long roll is cheaper per foot, $11.85 against $12.31, but the feet it saves are the ones left on the tube. Take a random-match design instead, no repeat, and the drop stays at 100 inches: three fit in a 27-foot roll, the wall needs two rolls, $639.98, and the estimator still asks for three, because 128 inches of its 28-inch allowance go into each roll.
A room, and the tenth roll
Four walls of a 12 by 10 foot room at 8 feet cut 6, 5, 6 and 5 drops, 22 in all. Two per 27-foot roll makes 11 rolls; the estimator counts 11 sets, adds a tenth of that rounded down, and prints 12. On 13-foot rolls the plan is 22, the estimator 24. The extra roll is not a cutting reserve, it is a rounding rule, and the ledger shows it as a separate line so the buyer can decide whether to carry it.

Repeats read: 24 inches on Odette Arboretum, Luca Bloom and Cressida, 48 inches on Margo Fruit Floral, whose cart requires at least two rolls. A 48-inch repeat rounds the 100-inch drop to 144: still one per short roll and two per long roll, with 12 and 36 inches of scrap instead of 36 and 84. Samples of 8.5 by 10 inches and 24 by 36 inch preview panels are sold separately and are not counted.
Doors and windows are not deducted, following the vendor’s guide; a 24-inch module rarely frees a whole drop, and the piece above a door is still a cut. Questions before the rolls are ordered
How do I calculate how much Painted Paper wallpaper I need?
Divide each wall width by 24 inches and round up: that is the drop count. Cut each drop to the wall height plus a trim allowance and round it up to the pattern repeat, 24 or 48 inches on the products read. Then see how many of those cuts a 13-foot roll of 156 inches or a 27-foot roll of 324 inches holds. The roll count is the drops divided by that number, rounded up.
How do I get the roll count for a whole room?
Switch the mode to four walls and enter each width and height. Every wall gets its own drops, and the drops of all four walls are assigned to rolls together, so a 27-foot roll can carry one drop for one wall and another for the next. A 12 by 10 foot room with 8-foot walls cuts 22 drops, 11 rolls of 27 feet.
How much for a 12 by 12 room?
Four walls of 144 inches take six drops each, 24 in all. At 8 feet with a 24-inch repeat each drop is cut to 120 inches, two per 27-foot roll: 12 rolls. On 13-foot rolls it is one drop per roll, 24 rolls. The vendor estimator returns 13 and 26, because its 10 percent rule adds one roll from ten sets and two from twenty.
How much will 11 yards of it cover?
Painted Paper does not sell by the yard; a 13-foot roll is 4.33 yards and a 27-foot roll 9 yards, so 11 yards is a 27-foot roll and most of a 13-foot one. In 24-inch drops cut to 120 inches, 396 inches of roll is three drops, 6 feet of an 8-foot wall.
What does the square-foot method give?
A 13-foot roll is 26 square feet and a 27-foot roll 54. A 12 by 8 foot wall is 96 square feet, which divides to 3.7 rolls of 13 feet, rounded to 4. The drops say 6, because each drop uses 120 of the roll’s 156 inches and the remaining 36 inches cannot become a drop. Square feet count paper; walls count drops.
Can I plan a single accent wall?
Yes, that is the default mode, and the preloaded 12 by 8 foot wall is the accent wall the vendor’s own measuring guide starts with. Enter the width and height, choose the roll length and the repeat printed on the product page, and read the drops, the rolls and the price.
How does the repeat change the count?
The repeat rounds every cut up to whole repeats after the trim. At 8 feet, 100 inches of height and trim becomes 120 inches with a 24-inch repeat and 144 with a 48-inch one. A 27-foot roll holds two of either, so the roll count does not move on this wall; the scrap does, 84 inches against 36 per roll. A 48-inch design also carries a cart minimum of two rolls.
Does it take feet and inches?
Yes. Type 8′6″, 8 ft 6 in, 102 or 102 in; fractions such as 1/2 are read. The metric toggle switches every field to millimetres and converts what is already entered. Painted Paper’s own estimator takes feet and inches or metres and centimetres and limits the height to 31 feet 2 inches.
Is this calculator free, and is it Painted Paper’s?
It is free and it is not the vendor’s. Calculiva has no affiliation with Painted Paper; the roll sizes, repeats, prices and estimator rule on this page were read from paintedpaper.com on the date shown in the byline and expire three months later unless re-read.
Is there an app?
No app. The page runs in the browser, prints to PDF with the drop list and roll sheet, and exports the drops as CSV and the wall drawing as SVG. Nothing is stored or sent.
Which count should I trust, this one or the vendor’s?
Both are printed. Where they agree, order that. Where they differ, the difference is explained in the warning: the vendor adds a flat 28 inches to the height and never reads the repeat, and it adds 10 percent rounded down. The drop plan shows every cut and the roll it comes from, so the count can be checked drop by drop.
What about wallpaper from another brand?
Any roll with a stated width and length is planned on the general calculator, which also deducts doors and windows. This page is fixed to the 24-inch width and the two lengths Painted Paper sells, with its prices.
What the count does not decide
- Rectangular walls, one height per wall, no opening deduction; the vendor’s estimator uses the highest wall for every wall, this page uses each wall’s own height.
- Straight match only for the 24 and 48 inch repeats; the products read state the repeat, not the match type.
- Prices are list prices in US dollars on the date read, before any discount code, shipping or tax; they expire from this page three months after the reading.
- The trim allowance is a working value, not a vendor figure; the vendor’s 28 inches covers trim and repeat together.
