Wall paneling calculators.
Three treatments, three things to divide.
Board and batten, wainscoting and picture frame molding all split a wall into equal parts, but not the same parts: gaps between strips, panels inside a frame, or boxes across and down. Name the treatment and the matching calculator returns every position to the sixteenth, with the stock to buy.
Vertical strips at an even spacing
The Board and batten calculator works out the exact gap, draws your own wall to scale and locates every batten from the left edge, so the layout can be marked from one end of the wall. It then counts the 8, 10 or 12 foot boards the battens come out of.
Framed panels under a cap
The Wainscoting calculator sizes the panels in fractions and gives the long point and short point of every mitered frame side. Cap heights come from a dated, named source, labeled as the rule of thumb it is, and the result adds up to a number of sticks.
Boxes of molding on a flat wall
The Picture frame molding calculator sets box sizes across and down the wall and lists all four miters of each box. Outlets are left out of a box rather than moved, and the waste allowance it applies carries its source.
If you have not chosen yet
All three start from the width of the wall you measured, so one tape session is enough to try each of them. What differs is the cutting: battens are located by position, while wainscoting and picture frames are lists of mitered lengths. Stock lengths and cap heights used here are dated in the source register.
