Glass pool fence cost calculator

Panels and kits for your runs at one maker’s store prices, and the four model-code questions a frameless glass barrier has to answer.

ISPSC 2021 305.2 and 305.3 · IRC 2021 R308.4.5 · one maker’s panels and prices

A 40 ft 10 in run of frameless glass takes 12 panels of 39 in at 2 in gaps, or 3 of everhome’s 4-panel kits at $1,289, $3,867 with the spigots; one gate kit at $992 brings the glass to $4,859 before labor (everhome store ↗, read October 27, 2026). Those panels stand 45.67 in tall, under the 48 in a pool barrier needs, so the gap under the glass decides whether the fence passes: at least 2.33 in over level ground, which only a solid surface allows.

Measurements

Bare numbers use the displayed unit. Feet, inches and fractions also work: 12 ft, 7 1/2 in.

Each run is straight, measured between its two ends, without the gate section. Panel sizes and prices: everhome, read October 27, 2026.

12 panels · $4,859.00 glass and gates · height OK · 14 marked panes

Height and clearance: top of the glass 48.67 in, 48.67 in above the outside grade, clearance within the 4 in allowed over a solid surface (305.2.1).

Gate latch, self-locking release (key, combination or electronic) (305.3.3 item 2): top of the gate 48.67 in. Enter the release height (and, for a pool-side release, the largest opening within 18 in of the latch) to check it.

Panels that cannot be cut

Tempered glass is cut before it is tempered, never after. That makes a glass fence a puzzle of fixed widths, and the calculator solves it the way an installer would on a straight run: as many full panels as fit, then narrower fillers, then the remainder spread across the gaps. The maker read for this page, everhome, sells a kit of 4 panels 39 in wide and 45.67 in tall, 12 mm thick, with eight stainless spigots, for $1,289. It sells single panels 18 in wide at $162 and 12 in wide at $134, and a gate kit at $992: a 36.02 in gate, its hinge panel, two self-closing hinges and a lock.

A run of 40 ft 10 in, 490 in, takes exactly 12 full panels with 2 in gaps: twelve times 39 plus eleven gaps of 2. That is 3 kits with no panel spare. Lengthen the run to 500 in and the twelve panels leave 10 in, not enough for a 12 in filler with its gap, so the gaps open to 2.91 in. Code section 305.2.2 sets the limit: no opening may let a 4 in sphere pass. The calculator flags any run where the gaps reach it.

At 200 ft, one straight 2,400 in run, the count is 58 full panels and one 18 in filler, with gaps of 2.07 in. Kits come by four, so that is 15 kits and 2 spare panels, $19,497 of glass. The filler’s spigots are not in that total: everhome’s single-spigot listing showed a placeholder price, so none could be read.

Why a 45.67 in panel decides the gap under the glass

The top of the barrier shall be not less than 48 inches (1219 mm) above grade where measured on the side of the barrier that faces away from the pool or spa. Such height shall exist around the entire perimeter of the barrier and for a distance of 3 feet (914 mm) measured horizontally from the outside of the required barrier.

The vertical clearance between grade and the bottom of the barrier shall not exceed 2 inches (51 mm) for grade surfaces that are not solid, such as grass or gravel, where measured on the side of the barrier that faces away from the pool or spa.

The vertical clearance between a surface below the barrier to a solid surface, such as concrete, and the bottom of the required barrier shall not exceed 4 inches (102 mm) where measured on the side of the required barrier that faces away from the pool or spa.

ISPSC 2021 section 305.2.1, items 1 to 3, New Hampshire adoption (UpCodes) ↗, read October 27, 2026.

Section 305.2.1 measures a pool barrier from the outside: the top at least 48 in above grade, held for 3 ft outward, with no more than 2 in under it over grass or gravel and no more than 4 in over a solid surface such as concrete. A panel 45.67 in tall needs 2.33 in of clearance to reach 48 in.

Over grass or gravel that is impossible: the most the clearance can be is 2 in, and the top then stands at 47.67 in. The calculator shows it on the default run moved to a lawn: 47.67 in, short of the line. Over concrete or pavers the window is 2.33 in to 4 in, and a 3 in clearance tops out at 48.67 in. That window closes if the ground rises outside: with 1 in more grade within the 3 ft band, the same fence stands 47.67 in above it and fails.

The practical reading: a frameless fence of these panels belongs on a solid strip, set with care for level, or the panels must be taller. None of the five cost pages read for this page relates the panel height to the clearance. The spigot sets how high the glass sits, and everhome does not publish that standoff, so the calculator asks you for the clearance you will build.

The gate latch on a glass gate

Pedestrian access doors and gates shall open outward away from the pool or spa, shall be self-closing and shall have a self-latching device.

At private pools, where the only latch release mechanism of a self-latching device for a gate is located on the pool and spa side of the barrier, the release mechanism shall be located at a point that is at least 3 inches (76 mm) below the top of the gate.

Where a latch release mechanism is located on the inside of a barrier, openings in the door, gate and barrier within 18 inches (457 mm) of the latch shall not be greater than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in any dimension.

ISPSC 2021 sections 305.3, 305.3.3 and 305.3.4 ↗, read October 27, 2026.

A pool gate must open outward, close itself and latch itself. Section 305.3.3 then offers three ways to place the release at a private pool. On the outside, a release that does not lock itself must be at least 54 in above grade. A self-locking control, by key, combination or electronics, may sit at 54 in or below. A release on the pool side only must be at least 3 in below the top of the gate, and section 305.3.4 then limits every opening within 18 in of the latch to 0.5 in.

The everhome gate is 45.67 in tall. With 4 in of clearance its top is at 49.67 in, below 54 in, so an outside non-self-locking release cannot sit on the leaf at all. The choices left are a self-locking control or a pool-side release no higher than 46.67 in. On the pool side, glass adds its own trap: the 2 in gaps between panels are openings, and one within 18 in of the latch fails 305.3.4. The calculator asks for the largest opening near the latch and checks it.

Safety glazing near the water: R308.4.5

Glazing in walls, enclosures or fences containing or adjacent to hot tubs, spas, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms, bathtubs, showers and indoor or outdoor swimming pools where the bottom exposed edge of the glazing is less than 60 inches (1524 mm) measured vertically above any standing or walking surface shall be considered to be a hazardous location. This shall apply to single glazing and each pane in multiple glazing. Exception: Glazing that is more than 60 inches (1524 mm), measured horizontally, from the water's edge of a bathtub, hot tub, spa, whirlpool or swimming pool or from the edge of a shower, sauna or steam room.

Each pane of glazing installed in hazardous locations as defined in Section R308.4 shall be provided with a manufacturer's designation specifying who applied the designation, the type of glass and the safety glazing standard with which it complies, and that is visible in the final installation.

IRC 2021 sections R308.4.5 and R308.1, Hawaii adoption (UpCodes) ↗, read October 27, 2026.

The residential code treats glass in a fence next to a pool as a hazardous location when its bottom edge is less than 60 in above the walking surface, unless the glass stands more than 60 in from the water’s edge. Every pane in a hazardous location must carry a visible mark naming who applied it, the type of glass and the safety-glazing standard it meets.

A glass pool fence set close to the water is almost always in that zone: the default run, 36 in from the edge with 3 in under the glass, has 12 panes to check, plus the 2 of the gate kit. Move a run to 72 in from the water and it leaves R308.4.5, though it is still the pool barrier under the ISPSC. The everhome pages say tempered; whether each pane carries the mark R308.1 asks for is to check on delivery, pane by pane.

Reading a glass pool fence quote

The calculator prices glass, spigots and gates at one maker’s store and leaves labor to your installer’s price per foot. A quote that bundles both can be read against it: subtract the materials and see what remains for coring or mounting the spigots, the gate and the cleanup. For the default run the materials are $4,859 over 40.83 ft of glass.

Ask three things of any glass quote. Which panel height, and what clearance under it on your ground? Which latch, at what height, and how far from the nearest panel gap? And are the panes marked as safety glazing? A chain-link barrier answers different questions; the chain link fence cost calculator reads its posts, mesh and pool option. Where the pool itself is still being priced, the gunite pool cost calculator carries the barrier as a line next to the construction fence.

Glass pool fence cost questions

How much do pool fences cost?

For frameless glass, at everhome’s store prices of October 27, 2026: $4,859 for a 40 ft 10 in run with one gate, before labor. Enter your runs above for yours. This page reads no price for mesh, aluminum or wood barriers.

What does a glass pool fence cost per foot?

In materials, about $94.70 a foot for the glass and spigots of the 40 ft 10 in run, $119 a foot with one gate kit counted in. On a long run the gate weighs less: 200 ft of glass alone is $97.49 a foot. Labor is your installer’s rate on top.

What does a glass pool fence cost per square foot?

An everhome kit holds 49.48 sq ft of glass, four panels of 39 × 45.67 in, for $1,289 with spigots: about $26.05 a square foot of glass. Fences are bought by the foot of run, though, because the height is fixed by the panel.

How much does 200 ft of fencing cost?

In everhome glass on one straight run: 58 full panels and one 18 in filler, 15 kits, $19,497 before gates, labor and the filler’s spigots. Split into several runs, the count changes; enter each run separately.

What is the cheapest fence to put around a pool?

This page prices only glass, so it cannot rank materials. Whatever the material, the barrier must meet the same 305.2.1 height and clearance and the same latch rules. For chain link, the chain-link quote comparison brings bids to a price per foot.

Does a pool fence have to be tempered glass?

The residential code asks for safety glazing in a hazardous location, and glass in a fence next to a pool is one when its bottom edge is under 60 in and it stands within 60 in of the water. Each such pane needs a visible mark naming the safety-glazing standard (R308.1). The everhome panels are sold as tempered.

Can a pool fence be made of plexiglass?

The code text read speaks of glazing and its safety-glazing mark, not of a material name. A plastic panel in a hazardous location would need the same visible mark naming the standard it meets (R308.1). No plastic panel was read for this page, so none is priced.

Does a glass pool fence cost more in California?

This page reads the model codes, not California’s own pool safety statute, which can set different heights and clearances. A taller barrier means taller panels, and everhome’s are 45.67 in. Read the state and city rules before ordering; the calculator’s checks are the model-code minimum.

Is a removable glass pool fence allowed?

No removable glass product was read, so the page does not price one. Whatever is installed is judged by the same rules while it stands: height and clearance under 305.2.1, the 4 in sphere, the gate latch. Ask your building department how it treats a barrier designed to come down.

What does this pool fence cost calculator check?

For each run: panels, fillers and the gap as laid against the 4 in sphere; the height above the outside grade and the clearance under the glass; the panes that need a safety-glazing mark. For the gate: its height and the latch rule. Then the price of kits, fillers and gates, and your labor.
